Psychotherapy is a talk
therapy. The first session usually involves the Client
outlying their reasons for needing therapy and also
their understanding of what it is about. I would then
discuss with the Client their expectations and explain
how I work. The kind of therapy suitable to a particular
individual can also be explored in this session.
Thereafter, if both parties
agree to go ahead, a regular appointment time is
arranged. This commitment involves meeting regularly,
usually on a weekly basis for fifty minutes or an hour.
CONFIDENTIALITY
All personal information is treated in the strictest
confidence.
Are there any occasions
when confidentiality is broken?
There are only very rare occasions when
confidentiality might be broken. For example if the
counsellor had reason to believe that harm may be done
to the Client, to others or to the counsellor
themselves. If necessary the Counsellor would first seek
permission from the Client before getting help from
other services such as the Client's GP. But sometimes in
very serious circumstances, this may need to be done
without the consent of the Client.
This confidential relationship
is mutually trusting and can continue for months or even
years. The usual fee is between 50 to 70 euro per
session. |
